On April 16th, our club started Zoom meetings. Here is a picture of the Zoom screen with all those attending. After a thought and a prayer, Errol EerNisse discussed using the remainder of our District Grant money for COVID 19 aid through our Highland High Interacter Club and the Westminster College Legacy Fund with special attention to Refugee students affected by COVID19.
A wonderful presentation was then made by Mohammed Sbai (akd, Mo), a member of the Salt Lake City Rotary Club. The topic was neuro-rehabilitation of patients in Morocco at the Moulay Ali Institute for Rehabilitation. This facility was conceived by Mo and funded partly through Rotary grants and Rotary VTT Programs. The local therapists there have been trained in SLC and in Morocco by Staff at the U of U School of Medicine.
This is an insert from an article in the Gunnison Valley Gazzette. Wally Brown and his friends from the Sugar House Rotary Club made their traditional appearance to GVES third graders last Wed. Oct. 2. Every year the men give each third-grader a dictionary. You can tell Wally is excited about his service project by the way he gives students a tour through the book. He explains all the things a dictionary can do for you, besides tell you how to spell a word. Dictionaries tell what words mean, how to pronounce them, what roots they come from, tell what part of speech theyare, and give synonyms. The Rotary Club’s motto is, “Service above self.”?
On September 26th, James Mayfield, Professor Emeritus of the U of U spoke to our club. He is co founder of CHOICE Humanitarian, a nonprofit NGO committed to improving the quality of life in rural villages in Africa, Asia and Latin America. His topic was the descripton of a successful multi-year project in Nepal where a large number of small communities were helped to improve the economics of their community, thus raising essentiallly all families above the poverty level. A new project in Guatemala, modeled after this Nepal project, is being started.

"SERVICE ABOVE SELF"
Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been “Service Above Self.” The Object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” Rotary is the largest service organization in the world.
Rotary strives to achieve it’s objective of “Service Above Self” through activities in five primary areas. These are often referred to as The Five Avenues of Service. The Fifth and newest Avenue of Service was recently approved by Rotary International, and is called "New Generations".

Message From Our President
Welcome to Sugar House Rotary Club's website - the sweetest club in Rotary! Our club #1085 in Rotary District # 5420 is one of 46 Rotary clubs in the state of Utah. Sugar House Rotary club is composed of 36 very active business and professional men and women.
The motto of Rotary International is "Service Above Self", and our goal as a club is to show through how we live our lives that we truly practice that motto. We will achieve our goals this year and have fun by working together and by cooperating with other clubs. Our service projects will represent the Five Avenues of Service - and traditionally, we are one of the leading clubs in the district to do so.
Our weekly meetings are held in the Forest Dale golf course club house (located at 2375 South 900 East) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Each week, our programs include informative speakers who keep our club up to date and involved in our community. We want to do all we can to improve the unique and historic community of Sugar House, where we live and do business.
We encourage prospective members to join with us in fellowship and good will as we work toward our goals of service in our community and the world. The Rotary theme for 2018-2019, as announced by our incoming International President, Barry Rassin is "BE THE INSPIRATION". We will strive as a club to indeed become more engaged in Rotary projects and thus see meaningful changes in the lives of those we serve. We invite you to inquire and join with us in this quest.
Chuck Baker, President
The Rotary Club of Sugar House, 2019-2020
