On February 7th, we received a wonderful surprise. Kevin Draper from Yuma, AZ, visited to thank our club for the scholarship he received from our club 52 years ago. Yes, 52 years ago. A rare case of receiving feedback from doing good in the world!!
Kevin described how that scholarship helped him get an Electronics Certificate from the Salt Lake Community College. His career eventually led him to be involved in computer programming for Quality Control at Motorola Semiconductor in Mesa, AZ. The result of those efforts vastly improved the production yield.
Kevin pointed out that the scholarship helped him become an important contributor to the community. He emphasized that supporting education has a far-reaching impact on society. Of course, our club believes that as well with our endowed scholarship at Westminster College and our use of some of our District Grant money to help students there buy books and supplies.
Kevin made a significant donation to our education fund too!
PDG Summerhays presenting details of the Columbia Peace Project Global Grant on January 24th, 2019. A remarkable joint effort of many Rotary Clubs that will provide peace training to groups of young adults in 5 cities in Columbia.
November 29th, joined the South Salt Lake Club in a fun event, wrapping Christmas presents for young children. Wrapped hundreds of presents. The presents were used for a big event at the Columbus Center the following Saturday.

"SERVICE ABOVE SELF"
Since 1910, the Rotary Motto has been “Service Above Self.” The Object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” Rotary is the largest service organization in the world.
Rotary strives to achieve it’s objective of “Service Above Self” through activities in five primary areas. These are often referred to as The Five Avenues of Service. The Fifth and newest Avenue of Service was recently approved by Rotary International, and is called "New Generations".

Message From Our President
Welcome to Sugar House Rotary Club's website - the sweetest club in Rotary! Our club #1085 in Rotary District # 5420 is one of 46 Rotary clubs in the state of Utah. Sugar House Rotary club is composed of 36 very active business and professional men and women.
The motto of Rotary International is "Service Above Self", and our goal as a club is to show through how we live our lives that we truly practice that motto. We will achieve our goals this year and have fun by working together and by cooperating with other clubs. Our service projects will represent the Five Avenues of Service - and traditionally, we are one of the leading clubs in the district to do so.
Our weekly meetings are held in the Forest Dale golf course club house (located at 2375 South 900 East) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Each week, our programs include informative speakers who keep our club up to date and involved in our community. We want to do all we can to improve the unique and historic community of Sugar House, where we live and do business.
We encourage prospective members to join with us in fellowship and good will as we work toward our goals of service in our community and the world. The Rotary theme for 2018-2019, as announced by our incoming International President, Barry Rassin is "BE THE INSPIRATION". We will strive as a club to indeed become more engaged in Rotary projects and thus see meaningful changes in the lives of those we serve. We invite you to inquire and join with us in this quest.
Margie Waltz, President
The Rotary Club of Sugar House, 2018-2019
